It is difficult to ignore the extent of work dissatisfaction in France.
Having experienced it myself, I could not help but investigate in order to understand this phenomenon, and to measure its extent abroad.
A recent report by Steelcase, the office furniture maker, entitled « Engagement and the Global Workplace », revealed that employee engagement positively correlates with workplace satisfaction.
The study involved 17 countries, including the Unites States, Canada, India, China, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Spain, and found that 37% of workers are disengaged and near 30% somewhere in the middle, not working against their companies but not driving better business results either.
France has the lowest results regarding workplace satisfaction and relationships between employees and their managers, staff representatives and colleagues.
In the following analysis, I gathered information from different studies to draw up the major characteristics of the French work environment and bring out the main causes of work dissatisfaction within it.
